This Privacy Policy explains how MÖDIX ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our multimodal trip-planning service on the web and mobile apps (the "Service"). This page is maintained by the MÖDIX team and describes our current practices.

What we collect

We collect your email address when you sign up, your display name (optional), trip origins and destinations you enter while planning a route, and your device location when you tap "Use my location". We also collect basic device and browser information (such as IP address, user agent, and app version) needed to operate and secure the Service. We do not sell your personal information.

Anonymous trip analytics

When you plan a trip, we also store an anonymous record of the origin and destination text, the selected travel modes, and the timestamp. When the origin is your device location, we store only the coordinates rounded to roughly 100 m of precision. These records contain no user identifier, account email, or device ID, and cannot be linked back to you. We use this aggregated data to understand which routes are popular so we can improve transit and ride-share coverage.

How we use your data

Your data is used to plan and display routes, remember your preferences, manage your subscription, deliver notifications you have opted into, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve the Service. Route queries are sent to Google Maps to compute directions. Transit data is provided by BC Transit via their public GTFS feeds.

Advertising, cookies, and third parties

MÖDIX is free to use and supported by advertising for non-Pro users. Ads on the web are served through Google AdSense. Ads inside our iOS and Android apps are served through AppLovin MAX. Pro subscribers do not see ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies, mobile advertising identifiers (such as IDFA on iOS and AAID on Android), and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to MÖDIX and other websites and apps.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings, and out of many other vendors' personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
  • On iOS you can also limit ad tracking under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. On Android, under Settings › Privacy › Ads.

We also rely on third-party providers to operate the Service, including Supabase (authentication and database hosting), Stripe (subscription billing), Google Maps (directions, geocoding, and places), and BC Transit (GTFS schedule data). Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you access MÖDIX from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google's consent management platform will ask for your consent before storing or reading non-essential cookies and before serving personalized ads, as required by the GDPR and ePrivacy rules. You may withdraw or change your consent at any time from the consent banner or your browser's cookie settings. Our lawful bases for processing include your consent (for advertising cookies and marketing), performance of a contract (to provide the Service and manage your account), and our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service).

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, our use of third-party advertising cookies and mobile advertising identifiers to deliver personalized ads may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of such sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You can opt out of personalized ads using the controls linked in the Advertising section above, and you can contact us at support@modixapp.com to exercise any of these rights.

Children

MÖDIX is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention

We retain your account information and saved data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, after which we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons. Anonymous, aggregated trip analytics may be retained indefinitely because they cannot be linked back to you.

Notifications

You can opt in or out of push notifications at any time from your account page. Disabling push notifications stops trip alerts and service updates.

Your rights

You can update your email, display name, and notification settings — or delete your account — at any time from the account page. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, port, or restrict processing of your personal data, or to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To make a request, contact us at support@modixapp.com.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest, including HTTPS/TLS and access controls on our database. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Attribution

Transit schedules, routes, and stop data are provided by BC Transit. Live mapping and geocoding services are provided by Google Maps.
